Every failed movement in history can trace its demise not to the strength of its oppressor, but to the first “small” lie it allowed itself to tell for tactical gain.
It begins innocently enough:
- Exaggerating a statistic to make a protest look larger.
- Fabricating a rumor to mobilize public outrage faster.
- Ignoring a crime committed by a fellow activist to maintain organizational “unity.”
These acts are frequently justified as “pragmatism.” But pragmatism devoid of moral truth acts like a slow poison. Once a public realizes their leaders selectively manipulate facts, faith evaporates. And once faith evaporates, a movement loses its soul—becoming just another faction fighting for power rather than justice.
We must institute a zero-tolerance policy for deception in our discourse. If a report is unverified, do not spread it. If our side made a mistake, admit it instantly. When our standard is absolute veracity, our claims carry the weight of iron.
