Authoritarian structures thrive in darkness. They rely on secret files, confidential memos, opaque budgets, and backroom negotiations. When political leaders operating in conflict zones adopt the same secrecy, they are adopting the exact methods of their oppressors.
I advocate for a radical model of Open-Book Politics:
- Financial Audits: Every civil society group, human rights organization, and political initiative must publish its funding sources publicly.
- No Secret Deals: Negotiations regarding the future of Kashmir must not happen behind closed doors in foreign capitals or intelligence safehouses. The people must be at the table.
- Public Debates: Differences between political factions should be debated openly before the public, not settled through smear campaigns or backchannel betrayals.
Transparency strips power away from political handlers and restores it directly to the populace.
